Day 61 The windows arrive!

31 Aug

Naoise!

Today was a brilliant day! The windows arrived from Latvia, 2 weeks earlier than expected! The last few days have been a bit stop, start. It wasn’t clear exactly when the windows would make their appearance and Monday evening we were told 8.30am this morning. It was after 3pm by the time they came, but they were worth waiting for.

It was a bit hair raising watching the driver make his way backwards down the lane, at times it didn’t look like the truck would fit, but he made it all the way, just hitting the piggery roof once on the way!! We were also a bit worried about unloading the windows as two of the windows are three meters wide and extremely heavy. They are triple glazed so impossible to lift by hand.

The only surprise was the front door!

For some reason it hadn’t registered with me that it would also be clad in aluminium, dark grey. I had assumed it would be wooden, which the inside of it is, but it’s a big, grey, heavy, aluminium door!!! HHmmm! Thankfully the inside finish is light and soft! Now we’ll just have to wait to see them all installed! Which should take about a week, maybe less!

Here are some photos from the last few days, getting ready for the windows and today when they arrived. Two of the upstairs windows were changed, dropped a few inches lower. Some of the rooms will have interesting window heights, some high and some low. We have designed it so you’ll get a particular view from either a sitting or standing position, I really hope they all suit the site and how we’re going to live in the house..

    Exciting, exciting!

I see what you mean about the front door! It’s positively Alkatraz-like…. but it’ll just blend into the background once it’s in a context 🙂 It certainly looks safe though, and that’s good.

It can be a symbol of protection too!

    XX Big sis!

I like the way you but that! A symbol of protection! It certainly is!! It’s growing on me!!
It’s funny, now that the windows are in, I realise that some are a little small. I hadn’t considered how much the wood frame would take up. The big windows are really big, and the small ones are really small!!! But they too will grow on my I’m sure. Once the rooms are done and the furniture is in, it’ll be different again!!

Hi! Thank you. I will check with my builder for the exact details, as I realise in my windows post I have mentioned both Latvia and Estonia!!
